What fuel goes with my cook system or stove?

All KIT LENDER stoves use one of two fuels: propane and iso-butane. These fuels are NOT interchangeable. Fuel does NOT come with your KIT and you will need to buy it separately. You can see what fuel the stove in your kit requires in the description on the booking page. Generally, car camping stoves use propane while lighter backpacking stoves use iso-butane.

Car Camping (Propane) Stoves: cooktop burners use standard camping propane fuel–the most common brand is Coleman (pictured below in green). This fuel can be purchased at most outdoor, hardware, and sporting goods stores (as well as Walmart).

Backpacking (Isobutane) Stoves: lighter backpacking stoves use isobutane fuel (pictured below in orange), a mixture of butane and propane (this is why it cannot be interchanged with standard camping fuel). There are many brands of isobutane fuel, which can be purchased at most outdoor and camping stores.
